Now that you have identified the problem and have a good understanding of the available solutions, it’s time to create your solution.  The solution concept is a rough idea of the invention without the finished details.  Remarkable Venture Inventing step 2 is where your creation begins to take shape.

Create the solution

Brainstorm new ideas: With a solid understanding of the problem and existing solutions, you can begin to brainstorm new ideas for solving the problem.

Write down all ideas.  Research other areas of life with similar functions to your ideas including other fields, industries, and even nature to gain insight on potential solutions. This is where your creativity can flourish.  Keep expanding on your list until you have exhausted all options.

If you are working with others, each person should write down ideas separately, without interaction, then come together and go through the ideas with discussion that will produce additional ideas.  Write those ideas down as well and begin to theoretically develop them.

Evaluate and select ideas: Once you have a list of potential ideas, the next step is to evaluate and select the best ones. Pay attention to simplicity and potential of manufacturability to assure your invention will be feasible with the available technology. The goal is to identify the most promising ideas and determine which ones are most likely to succeed.

Document your best idea: Once you have chosen the best solution document some rough sketches and notes to be used during the next 4 steps of Remarkable Venture Inventing.  You will be refining and developing your solution as you go through your product search, patent search, finalizing the solution and prototype creation.

From this point on, as you develop your solution you should keep thinking about feasibility and the level of impact your invention will have on solving the problem.  If at any point you don’t feel like the idea is going to be successful, go back to brainstorming.  It’s important to keep yourself from having tunnel vision if you know in your heart that the idea is not going to be an improvement.

Summary

  • Create the solution by brainstorming new ideas based on a solid understanding of the problem and existing solutions.
  • Evaluate and select the best ideas.
  • Document your best idea to refine and develop during the next 4 steps of Remarkable Venture Inventing.
